What Are the Types of Cocktails?
Mixed Drinks

There are many different types of cocktails, and they can be classified in a variety of ways based on their ingredients, preparation method, and other factors. Here are some of the most common types of cocktails:

  1. Spirit-based cocktails – These cocktails are made with a base spirit such as gin, vodka, rum, or whisky, and may include other ingredients like juices, syrups, bitters, or liqueurs.
  2. Champagne cocktails – These cocktails are made with Champagne or other sparkling wine, and may include other ingredients like fruit juice, liqueurs, or bitters.
  3. Tiki cocktails – These tropical-inspired cocktails often include rum or other tropical spirits, as well as fruit juices, syrups, and other sweeteners.
  4. Frozen cocktails – These cocktails are made with crushed ice or blended with ice to create a slushy texture. They can include a variety of spirits and mixers, and are often served in a tall glass.
  5. Classic cocktails – These are the original, time-honored cocktails that have been popular for many years. Examples include the Martini, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and Negroni.
  6. Mocktails – These are non-alcoholic cocktails that are made with juices, syrups, and other non-alcoholic mixers. They are a great option for people who don’t drink alcohol or are looking to reduce their alcohol intake.
  7. Shooter cocktails – These small, high-proof cocktails are typically consumed quickly in one or two sips. Examples include the Kamikaze, B-52, and Jagerbomb.

These are just a few examples of the many types of cocktails that exist. Ultimately, the possibilities for creating new and unique cocktails are endless, and mixologists around the world are constantly experimenting with new ingredients and techniques to create exciting new drinks.

About The Blog

The latter group are often referred to as “mixologists,” a term given to practitioners of “mixology,” which is really just another way of referring to the practice of making good cocktails. Mixology might seem like a newfangled term, but it’s actually pretty old, like mid-19th century old, and was only revived as a way to describe the recent renaissance of bartenders caring (a lot) about their craft.
