Dewar’s Profile

A thirst for living … a taste for fine Scotch.

David Hardy

Born: Plainfield, New Jersey, 1942

Home: West New York, New Jersey

Profession: Investigative/political reporter, New York Daily News.

Responsibility: “To share reality with others, even though I’m mindful that reality is not always an inspiring spectacle.”

Story: “Be it a homicide, a zoning fight, a political scandal, or simply a tale of a compassionate Jersey City hot dog vendor, my job is sometimes thrilling, often onerous, occasionally perilous, but always interesting!”

Quote: “Every human being should possess a sense of morality about society and accept personal responsibility for his or her role.”

Scotch: Dewar’s “White Label.” “On the rocks with a splash, when relaxing with my chess computer.”

IT WAS seventeen years ago, in August, that Norman Macqueen says he saw the Loch Ness monster. And Donald Campbell still says he didn’t.

The good things in life stay that way. Dewar’s never varies.

IF you order a full set of Laurie Auchterlonie’s clubs, you can expect him to make them with hickory, applewood, ram’s horn and his hands. But don’t expect them until 1987. There are three people ahead of you.

About The Blog

The latter group are often referred to as “mixologists,” a term given to practitioners of “mixology,” which is really just another way of referring to the practice of making good cocktails. Mixology might seem like a newfangled term, but it’s actually pretty old, like mid-19th century old, and was only revived as a way to describe the recent renaissance of bartenders caring (a lot) about their craft.
