After All, It’s Merely Money

But it’s not just Scotch. It’s 25-year-old Glenfiddich Single Malt, a whisky of such character and rarity that many Scotsmen would prefer to keep it for themselves. Be that as it may, a small supply is available this year, bottled in glorious Edinburgh crystal. Each decanter is crowned with a solid sterling silver Stag’s Head and comes in its own inlaid walnut chest. To obtain one for yourself, or as a gift for a most worthy friend, ask your local spirits merchant-or call William Grant & Sons collect at 201-225-9000.

The Case Of The Holiday Hoax

“Bah, humbug,” I cried unseasonably as I surveyed the puzzling presents clustered ’round my tree.” “Tis not the spirit behind the gifts that’s mystifying me,” I mused, “the haunting question is the spirit in them.”

“Grand, glorious Glenfiddich, as my friends are well aware, remains the single Scotch I drink. Its famous bottle is triangular. And yet, without exception, all these packages are boxy, rectilinear, and unforgivably square!”

Despite the good will of the season, base suspicions filled my mind. “Was there a plot amongst my pals to put a blended Scotch beneath my tree? Had some cabal of cronies shared the sterling Single Malt among themselves?”

Then the horror of it struck me. “If my friends were not at fault, had the ancient copper stills worn out? Had Scottish Nationalists seized Glenfiddich? Was there no more Glenfiddich to be had?”

Glenfiddich’s new gift tin-once the Scotch is gone-— may well prove suitable for storing bullion, bearer bonds, gilt-edge securities.

Desperate now, I ripped the wrapping off, and lo, before my wondering eyes, a tricorn bottle of Glenfiddich nestled in a most distinctive, square tin box. A brilliant solution to a case that nearly ended in a bum wrap.

About The Blog

The latter group are often referred to as “mixologists,” a term given to practitioners of “mixology,” which is really just another way of referring to the practice of making good cocktails. Mixology might seem like a newfangled term, but it’s actually pretty old, like mid-19th century old, and was only revived as a way to describe the recent renaissance of bartenders caring (a lot) about their craft.
