What Can Advocaat Liqueur be Mixed With?

Advocaat liqueur can be mixed with a variety of ingredients to create delicious cocktails. Some popular mixers for Advocaat liqueur include:

Fruit juices: Orange juice, grapefruit juice, and pineapple juice all pair well with Advocaat liqueur. Try mixing Advocaat with your favorite juice for a refreshing and fruity cocktail.

Cream: Cream-based cocktails like the Snowball, Golden Dream, and Advocaat Eggnog all use cream as a mixer. Cream adds a rich and creamy texture to the cocktail, balancing out the sweetness of the Advocaat.

Coffee: The combination of Advocaat liqueur and coffee is a classic Dutch cocktail known as the “Advocaatje met slagroom” (Advocaat with whipped cream). Try mixing Advocaat liqueur with hot coffee and topping with whipped cream for a cozy and comforting drink.

Spirits: Advocaat liqueur can also be mixed with other spirits like vodka, rum, and whiskey. For example, try mixing Advocaat with vodka and Kahlua for a Dutch Delight cocktail.

Egg whites: Egg whites can be added to cocktails like the Advocaat Sour or the Ramos Gin Fizz to create a frothy and light texture.

These are just a few examples of what Advocaat liqueur can be mixed with. Get creative and experiment with different mixers to find your perfect Advocaat cocktail!

Facts About Advocaat Liqueur

Origin: Advocaat is a Dutch liqueur that originated in the 17th century. It was originally made by mixing egg yolks, sugar, and brandy, and was consumed for medicinal purposes.

Ingredients: The modern recipe for Advocaat liqueur typically includes egg yolks, sugar, brandy, and vanilla. Some variations may also include cream or spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.

Texture: Advocaat liqueur has a thick and creamy texture due to the egg yolks. It is often compared to eggnog in both texture and flavor.

Serving: Advocaat liqueur is traditionally served in small, tulip-shaped glasses called “advocaat glasses”. It is typically served at room temperature or slightly chilled.

Festive drink: In the Netherlands, Advocaat liqueur is a popular drink during the holiday season. It is often served with whipped cream on top and enjoyed as a cozy and comforting drink.

Cocktails: Advocaat liqueur is a versatile ingredient in cocktails and can be mixed with a variety of mixers like fruit juices, cream, coffee, and other spirits.

Production: Some brands of Advocaat liqueur are still made using traditional methods of blending egg yolks and brandy by hand. However, many modern versions are made using pasteurized eggs and automated mixing processes.

Variations: While the classic Advocaat recipe remains popular, there are many variations of the liqueur available today. Some variations include different flavors like chocolate or caramel, while others are made with different base spirits like rum or whiskey.

What is the Proof of Advocaat Liqueur?

The proof of Advocaat liqueur can vary depending on the brand and recipe. However, in general, Advocaat liqueur has a lower alcohol content compared to other liqueurs. The alcohol by volume (ABV) of Advocaat liqueur is typically around 14-20%, which is equivalent to 28-40 proof. This makes Advocaat liqueur a relatively mild liqueur that can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails. However, it’s always a good idea to check the label or consult the manufacturer to determine the specific proof of a particular brand of Advocaat liqueur.

Who is the producer of Advocaat liqueur?

Advocaat liqueur is produced by various brands around the world, but it is most commonly associated with Dutch producers. Some of the most popular Dutch brands of Advocaat liqueur include Bols, DeKuyper, and Warninks. Other European brands of Advocaat liqueur include Verpoorten from Germany, and Ruta from Latvia. In addition, there are also many smaller, artisanal producers of Advocaat liqueur. The exact recipe and method of production can vary between brands, so it’s always a good idea to try different brands to find your favorite.

About The Blog

The latter group are often referred to as “mixologists,” a term given to practitioners of “mixology,” which is really just another way of referring to the practice of making good cocktails. Mixology might seem like a newfangled term, but it’s actually pretty old, like mid-19th century old, and was only revived as a way to describe the recent renaissance of bartenders caring (a lot) about their craft.
